2.What are the types of Job Satisfaction ?
Employee satisfaction is an indicator of employee engagement that is calculated with a confidential or probably anonymous ,survey that asks employees directly “ How satisfied are you with your job ’’ As with customer satisfaction ,employee satisfaction is useful because there is no better way to know if people are happy than to ask them directly ,
The following are common elements of employee satisfaction,
1. Hygiene Factors
Hygiene factors are minimum working conditions that don’t boost employee satisfaction if they are met. However if they are absent they can result in extremely low employee satisfaction. These are basic elements such as water, coffee, tea, comfortable chairs & safe working environment that employees expect.
2. Extrinsic Motivation
Motivation driven by compensation, incentives ,rewards ,status & praise.
3. Intrinsic Motivation
Internalizing a firm’s mission & believing you play an important role. In some cases , employees feel pulled towards work & find it personally rewarding.
4.
Many employees prefer working for leaders who provide certainty in the form of a stable strategy & plans that are clearly communicated.
When strategy seems random ,political & unstable people tend to feel things are hopeless or obsurd.
5. Tone at the top
6. Productivity
Overworked people may be unhappy. Under-worked people may also be unhappy. Idle time can be boring & lead employees to have a low sense of accomplishments.
7. Culture
The norms, values & expectations of an organization. For example office politics that are reasonable & courteous as opposed to negative & uncivil.
8. Job security
Employees who don’t feel secure in their job tend to be dissatisfied. For example rumors of a layoff can reduce employee satisfaction.
9. Quality of working life
The quality of the job itself including factors such as office location ,interior design , tools & processors. For example a job with creative freedom in an appealing office using state of the art tools.

ReplyDeleteYes Thushara here I have described parameters of job satisfaction ,But I have addressed to your query by Article No 03.How to improve Job Satisfaction.
DeleteInteresting article Susantha. In addition to your points, I think satisfaction types are very with the employer level & category. Low level of employee’s satisfaction reasons may not satisfy the middle & top level of employees. Top level of employee’s satisfaction reasons may not satisfy the low level of employees.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your valued feedback. Of course top level employees satisfaction does not make sense of low level employee satisfaction.
DeleteIn my view all the employees should be satisfied similarly & obviously compensation & benefits will higher with the hierarchy & low level employees should be encouraged & motivated to go up the ladder by senior employees & management.
As you mentioned in your article, there are many ways to improve the employee job satisfaction. Hence it is a responsibility of HR department to implement a strategic plan in line with organizational goals to improve job satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteYes Sevindi, HRD have to work on employee compensation and welfare. If they are satisfied probably will make customers happy. For example let's consider a bank. The customers are the valued asset for a bank in addition to the staff & bank's performance depends on customer relationship & feedback. In order to make customer satisfy employees should work on that. So the management should satisfy employees.

DeleteEmployee satisfaction always depends on the work environment and job satisfaction. HRM should take care to to improve job satisfaction. The Organization must align individual goals with the organizational goals of the organization and must have a strategic plan in place. According to Amstrong,2017 there are common components of employee engagement. commitment, organizational civic behavior, motivation, job satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the elements you have mentioned I like to add work life balance and career growth as key motivational factors. Because work life balance must be there to deliver a excellent service to the organization. When it is unbalanced all will be messed up. Also the career growth is another fact that every employee in a organization is looking for.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with your suggestion.
